Hey! I'm Grace.
I am a second-year student at the University of Montana in Missoula. I am majoring in journalism and am currently hunting for a second major. I have written articles for the Great Falls Tribune as a part of their Teen Panel program. This job helped me gain valuable writing and interviewing skills while learning how to write on a deadline. My writing was also open to more public criticism early in my career which taught me to write proficiently, write well-researched work, and to be proud of my own content. I was a staff writer turned editor-in-chief of The Stampede newspaper at Charles M. Russell High School in Great Falls, Montana. I learned how to work with and guide a large staff while working on my own editing and designing skills. I also became well-versed in InDesign and Photoshop. In addition, I was a news writer for the Montana Kaimin where I wrote the weekly "Crime Blotter" and covered a wide variety of live events on a tight deadline. I learned valuable team skills, how to get creative with my weekly pitches, and the importance of building connections with my community.
My work has earned me membership in the Quill & Scroll Society. In June of 2019, I represented the state of Montana at the Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference in Washington D.C. where I had the opportunity to meet other young student journalists from across the country. As a senior in high school, I won the Journalist of the Year Award – Montana. Since my high school experiences, I have earned two scholarships and nearly completed my journalism degree. I look forward to expanding my skillset and education at the University of Montana. |
Journalism is more than just reporting. It's about impacting your community, giving a voice to the silenced, and spreading the truth.”

Let's get personal. I was born and raised in Montana and greatly appreciate all the outdoor activities this great state has to offer. Some of my favorite hobbies include fly-fishing, hunting, camping, backpacking, and skiing.
I like to be an active member of my school and community and have gained an innumerable amount of experiences, life skills, and memories through these opportunities. In high school, I participated in Business Professionals of America, Key Club, Leadership High School, newspaper, basketball, track, and acted as student government senator. My after school hours were spent babysitting throughout the community or working at the childcare program, HANDS Inc. I am currently working while attending college so my volunteer time is limited, but I push myself to write stories that most affect my community and the people around me in an effort to give everyone a voice. Since I can remember, I have always loved traveling. My parents and I value the importance of gaining new experiences outside of your comfort zone. We love camping in National Parks, visiting family out of state, and occasionally taking a trip out of the country. One of my most memorable adventures was walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain with my grandparents. It is a 500 mile hike across the country which took me three years to save up for. It challenged me physically, mentally, and spiritually. However, it strengthened my wanderlust, increased my communication skills, and taught me to step outside my introvert bubble. I am so excited to continue my journey and experience all that life has to offer. |
